Landscapes & travel
Landscape work was what I was brought up on. My Father was a very competent hobbyist and so I learned from him the ‘joys’ of shutter speed and exposure. My first camera at age 8 was a Kodak Instamatic 33. I moved to a handed-down 35mm when Dad upgraded to his first single lens reflex – the legendary Pentax Spotmatic. I think I was about 15 when I got my first slr – a Pentax KM. Being in the north east of England we had the stunning Northumberland coast on our doorstep and it was only an hour and a bit by car to the even more stunning English Lake District. So these were natural destinations for early work. Unfortunately I have never been blessed with the huge reserves of patience really serious landscape photographers have so I don’t wait round for hours in the rain for a rainbow to appear or a shaft of sunlight to burst through a black cloud. Anything you see was just taken at the time I was there so apologies if the lighting isn’t up to Joe Cornish standards!
