Equipment and ethos
For those who are interested in this sort of thing I use Minolta Dynax 7D and Sony Alpha 700 bodies. My main lenses are; a 10-20 Sigma ultrawide, 17-50/28-75 2.8 Tamrons and 70-200 Sigma 2.8 (my favourite) plus a lovely pair of ‘antique’ lenses – the Tamron 90mm 2.5 macro and 35mm f2 Minolta as tack sharp primes for specific tasks. I still steadfastly refuse to give up the 4 Canon A1’s in the spare room, even though that is all they see these days!I use Sandisk Extreme III and IV cards for capture and Adobe Photoshop CS3 for post processing images. I shoot exclusively in the RAW (…..wait for it!) format and usually try to stick to my basic ethos of keeping images looking natural - a ‘light touch’ with Photoshop is very much the way I operate – the furthest I go is in conversion to black and white, where I try to stick to traditional darkroom methods such as dodging, burning and contrast filters, again in an attempt to ‘keep it real’.
I have done commercial work for websites and Government organisations. Magazine work for a national publication. Portfolio work for models as well as general photography for my own enjoyment. I was Model Exposure’s photographer of the month in January 2007. For modelling I am leaning more towards location fashion/alternative work now but please run any ideas past me at all as I love doing anything new and challenging.
